The Gimlet

The Gimlet

In the 19th century, lime was used to fight off scurvy aboard the ships sailing around the globe. On its own, lime is very acidic. So, Sir Thomas Desmond Gimlette decided to add some Gin. This made the remedy more tolerable for his officers. Nowadays, we add sugar to the concoction to smooth out the taste. Enjoy one on a nice warm summer day or heat it up to keep you warm on a cold winter night!

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 oz of Gin or Vodka
  • 1/2 oz of fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz of  Simple Syrup

Preparation

  1. Combine your 3 ingredients in a cocktail shaker
  2. Shake vigorously
  3. Strain into a martini glass with a cocktail strainer
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel
