Mythologies – 2022

"Ceci n'est pas un marché" (This is not a market) is a groundbreaking contemporary art Christmas market showcasing the talent of women artists from Quebec. The event offers art lovers and collectors a unique opportunity to acquire original, small-format contemporary artworks for under $300.

Led by artist Delphine Huguet and curator Mylène Lachance-Paquin, this initiative aims to fill a gap in the market for unrepresented artists and new collectors during the holiday season.

The event features a diverse range of artworks, including textile pieces, sculptures, drawings, photography, embossing, printmaking and mixed-media works. It's an ideal opportunity to buy unique, soulful gifts while avoiding the impersonal chaos of traditional holiday shopping.

A key aspect of this event is its support for the artistic community. Part of the proceeds from sales will go to the non-profit POST-INVISIBLE, which promotes the work of under-represented women artists.

Delphine Huguet

Who are the organizers?

Delphine Huguet, artist.

A visual artist, Delphine Huguet is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure d’arts de Paris-Cergy and the École supérieure d’art et de design de Reims.

As early as 2007, Delphine Huguet became known for her performances and art installations related to the world of the table, exploring the sensory qualities of its ingredients as much as the ritual of tasting.

Ten years later, she continues her exploration of relational art, enriching it with her intimate experience as a woman and an artist. Elevating humble materials through precise technique, she builds a polymorphous universe of everyday objects that she makes remarkable through exploratory handling. Feeding her own formal pantheon, gathered under the name Journal de mes mythologies, Delphine Huguet questions endogenous and exogenous perceptions of the feminine through the notions of body, desire and interpersonal relationships.

Mylène Lachance-Paquin, curator.

Mylène Lachance-Paquin, an independent curator, writer and consultant, is the founder and director of the POST-INVISIBLES Biennale, a look at the place of women* in the visual arts that addresses, through a program of exhibitions, talks and outreach activities, the under-representation of women throughout art history. The event highlights best practices and calls for a more equal, less patriarchal art world. Her recent exhibitions have been presented at the Sommet Climat Montréal (2023), the Maison de la culture Botrel (Montréal, 2023) and Projet Casa (Montréal, 2022), the latter recommended by the Fondation Phi pour l’art contemporain. As a writer, Mylène Lachance-Paquin has published texts in, among others, the catalogue Pictura : plein feu sur la peinture à Montréal (2021) and Emmanuel Laflamme’s latest book (Coronart, 2023), and wrote Besner, l’électron libre (2022), published by the Musée des beaux-arts de Mont-Saint-Hilaire. Her articles have appeared in the magazines Esse (2022) and Vie des Arts (2023). She worked as a cultural journalist (MatTv, 2019–2020) and led the production of the POST-INVISIBLES 2022 catalogue. Through OGIVE art et éducation, the organization she founded and directs, Mylène has also curated 6 exhibitions in corporate spaces and works to make art more accessible to the public.
