Amakusa stones are extracted from a mine in the Kumamoto prefecture, in Japan. Since It is a natural stone, it is not recommended to soak it before use. A light dampening is enough. Because of its stripes, the red Amakusa stone is also known as ''jo-haku-to'', which means fine white stone. Please note that the patterns will vary from one stone to another, because it comes directly from a quarry.
