Les Charlatans (could be loosely translated as Snake Oil Salesmen) is a great line of small batch, handmade, well balanced and in good part organic cocktail syrups. The makers, originally french, are now located in Montreal. Their idea was to create products inspired by old world syrups but with a contemporary twist and, especially, with the cocktail crowd in mind. The sea buckthorn is a plant native to Asia and Europe. Today, it is quite popular and cultivated in Quebec because of its characteristic to adapt to large temperature differences. Its small orange berries are used to make juice, jelly, liquor, jam, ice cream or to accompany fish or savory dishes. The sea buckthorn syrup by Les Charlantans reveals the acidity of the fruit and pairs well with gin, white rum or vodka-based cocktails. Of course, it can be enjoyed on ice cream, with soda water, for cooking, pastries, etc.
Les Charlatans is a small Montreal-based company that excels in making all natural, hand crafted syrups that are both fun to use and tasty. Whether they're mixed with sparkling water, thrown into a dish or blended in a cocktail, they can brighten any kind of gets together. The founder, Jeanne, grew up in France and she remembered how a dash of syrup could make a huge difference in mineral water, be it blackcurrant, orgeat or any homemade creation. That idea was then developed when she moved to Montreal and the brand was born!
