Product Description

The classic Japanese style of the bladed knife is one that's been in the making for over 400 years, since the time of Muramasa Sengo. This knife is made in the traditional smithy that's been around since the Muramasa Sengo period (16th century) and is made by master blacksmiths. The attention to detail is evident in the blade of this knife. The blade is forged, made of blue carbon steel with a stainless steel cladding, and has a very long edge, so that it can be used for a variety of practical applications. The blade has been brushed for a silky finish and is razor sharp. The collar is made of a pakkawood, a dense, hardwood that comes from the Burmese rainforests. Pakkawood is a material that's very resistant to breakage, which is why they've been used for centuries in traditional Japanese swords. The handle is octagonal, which is the shape of a traditional Japanese sword handle. The handle itself is made of cherrywood.

All knives from Masakage are handmade by Master Blacksmiths of Takefu's village and hand sharpened by one of Japan's best knife sharpeners, Takayuki Shibata san. When these knives come out of their box, they have an amazing sharpness and will stay sharp for an extremely long time due to Shibata san's masterful technique. Alambika is extremely happy to import and retail Japanese knives (from Takefu village) in Canada. The whole kitchen knife collection can be seen and handled in our Montreal store.
